HP-80 PROTOTYPE MEGA RARE HP VINTAGE CALCULATOR. Mega rare HP-80 Prototype calculator is in excellent condition and works. This demo was close to the final piece before production, hence has most functionality. Works perfectly except for the charger/adapter circuits, both incomplete and non-functional. Includes pouch, original 03501A battery pack and a new aftermarket battery pack. HP pouch is stitched too small for the calculator. I'm guessing this may also a prototype piece. The HP-80 was HP's second calculator after the HP-35 red dot. HP used available HP-35 parts in preparing the HP-80 prototype. The split back casing, 03501A back door, 03501A battery pack were all seen on the red dot. The final version HP-80 has a solid back and a 82001A back door/battery pack. Also notice these differences: Photos #3/#4 HP-80 Version 1 left, Prototype right. (HP-80 V1 shown for comparison only and is not included with Prototype).

No silver bar underneath the display, the metal silver bar was added to the HP-80 V1. The front label with HP logo reads "HP 80 P-53". The function keys are t oo small for the keyboard, the final version keys fit correctly. The legends on the keys are different from the V1 production model. XY key has 2 full curved arrows, the "SAVE" key has the arrow emblem further apart.

The basic function key emblems (add, subtract, multiply, divide) are smaller. The prototype top row keys are gray, the V1 keys are black. CLR became CLEAR on final. No serial number or back labels. Chips have much lower chip codes than the production model. Battery compartment is clean with shiny, conductive tabs. Red "Light Emitting Diode" display is "Crisp and Bright" with all segments illumined. All items from Vintage Calculators Inc come from a smoke free environment.
