1HP 240v Hollow Chisel Morticer Floorstanding Vintage Metalclad Ltd. Dont be fooled by its archaic appearance - this is a heavy duty, workshop ready and working single phase Morticer designed and built to rival wadkin dm class size machines. This was built circa 1952 by Metalclad Ltd who previously built bombs during the war.
The appearance is similar to Victorian machines but the motor is original and not a later addition! 1HP, 240v motor which can be slid up and down the column but also easily removed in the same manner as a sedgewick. I thought about converting it for a high speed head which can be bought and bolted straight on allowing it to be used as an overhead router too.
The machine is primitive and return of the column is by a counterweight at the rear. This is probably its biggest drawback as it takes extra space but a gas strut or trampoline spring could be used with a shorter lever. I havent made changes as it is a solid vintage machine and works fantastically as the Morticer it was designed for.Weighs around 1/4 tonne but dismantles. I actually loaded and unloaded it by myself in sections although I really dont recommend it! Comes with a few chisels.
